The products for the layer can be anything - meat, fish, pates, cheeses, herring, cottage cheese... Processed cheeses or butter are often used. But to diversify the color and taste, you can add (first chop and then beat well) cheese (cheese butter) and herbs (green butter), ketchup or tomato paste (rose butter), the same smoked capelin caviar into soft butter (caviar oil). Sandwich cakes, as a rule, are prepared in advance; they need to be given the opportunity to soak properly, and the cakes should be properly “set” into place. Prepare the cakes 12 hours or a day in advance and keep them in the refrigerator, covered, all this time to avoid weathering.
A slight pressure is placed on the top (on the last cake) so that the cakes are better bonded (glued) together. But you need to decorate sandwich cakes not long before serving, so that they look fresh and not weathered. Round cakes are cut directly on the table, but rectangular cakes can be cut in advance, into portioned pieces (in this case, the top of the cake is decorated after how it will be cut). Preparation:
